Studio Modijefsky's interior design for the gallery transforms a historic building on Rusland in Amsterdam into an eclectic space for archival fashion, art, and gathering.

Conceived at the intersection of the two worlds that the owner has spent years building: archival fashion with carefully curated accessories, and a platform for emerging artists. With a long history in the art world, from running spaces for artists in residence to cultivating a wide network across fashion and contemporary art, this gallery is her next chapter: a place where her private collection and her creative community finally share the same room.

Dating back to the 1500s, the building carries a rich history that is still tangible throughout the space. From the street, its distinctive blue-painted wooden facade, framed by large gridded windows, gives the gallery a striking presence. Inside, quirky architectural elements and unexpected details reveal themselves around every corner. Rather than imposing a new identity onto the space, Studio Modijefsky embraces these existing peculiarities, allowing them to become part of the gallery's own character and story.

The interior is conceived as a flexible backdrop for a constantly changing collection and programme. Archival garments are presented almost as artworks, displayed alongside contemporary pieces and exhibitions in an environment where the distinction between gallery and wardrobe becomes intentionally blurred. The layout allows the space to adapt between retail, exhibition, and event use, creating a setting that can evolve with each new collection, collaboration, or pop-up. The uniqueness of this space lies in a layout that uses corners, niches and unexpected architectural moments to create distinct worlds within the same space, giving the entire gallery, shop and event space the versatility its programme demands.

The gallery is a world unto itself: distinctive, layered, and able to transform entirely for a new collection, a collaboration, or for a specific occasion. Like any great collector's cabinet, it holds its own logic and uniqueness. A space that is, at its core, an extension of its owner: her eye, her references, her world.
